What’s a “Playa”?

playa// (pl) A dry lake bed at the bottom of a desert basin, sometimes temporarily covered with water. Playas have no vegetation and are among the flattest geographical features in the world. Also called sink.

Burning Man takes place on a Playa, specifically, the largest expanse where nothing grows.

I am a 33 year old mother of three girls. I’m married. I have a little dog and an even littler bird. I’m in the middle of a new spiritual journey and working through some PTSD and related mental health issues.  The blog title is a reference to Burning Man and the freedom I found there on the Playa.

  1. Was Burning Man at the beach? I thought it was in the desert somewhere. Sorry if that’s a dumb question.

I added it to the post, I think that in Spanish it does mean beach.

  3. Yes, in Spanish it does mean beach, hence my confusion. Thanks for the clarification! :-)
